So, what began nearly eight months ago as a graduate thesis project has evolved into a radio documentary. I'm once again looking for people who are interested and willing to participate. I need your help to tell this story.
The radio doc will focus on the current state of provincial resources available to adults with ADHD or those seeking a diagnosis.
A policy paper published in 2009 by the B.C. Medical Association called upon the province to invest more resources in the treatment of ADHD -- adult ADHD in particular. Three years later, the province has yet to establish a single clinic dedicated to treating and supporting adults.
When the adult ADHD clinic at B.C. Children's Hospital closed its doors in 2007, there was over a year wait for an appointment. What happened to all of the people on that list? Did they turn to private practitioners? Did they find any support at all?
These are questions I'd like to answer -- and this is where I need your help.
If you're currently trying to navigate the process of getting a diagnosis here in Vancouver, and you're willing to share your experience to be aired on the radio, then I'd love to hear from you. If you were on the wait list in 2007 and were forced to find other options after the clinic closed, your story is also important for this project. Please consider participating and feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you might have.
